Job summary

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and hard-working Medical laboratory assistant with a keen eye for detail to join their very busy Microbiology team at Watford General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Participate in the collection of specimens from pathology reception, sorting samples for various benches such as urines, stools, swabs, tissues and fluids, blood and blood cultures.

Label and culture samples on relevant bacterial culture media etc.

Participate in the safe disposal of laboratory waste and assist in the handling of deliveries and goods storage.

Work under the supervision of HCPC registered BMS and after training work with analysers for urine microscopy and susceptibility testing. Participate in booking laboratory requests onto the pathology LIMS system.
