Job summary

Thank you for your interest in this exciting role as a Speech and Language Therapist in the Oxford Stroke Rehabilitation Unit based at Abingdon Community Hospital. We are seeking an experienced speech and language therapist who is passionate about people to provide support to people with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties after a stroke.

Main duties of the job

To provide assessment, intensive therapy and signposting to people with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties after a stroke, in different environments

Responsible for overseeing the clinical caseload, designing therapy programmes for our Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and families to supplement the care provided

Work collaboratively within an MDT and supervise junior colleagues

To have a knowledge of a range of assessments and therapy techniques, in addition to experience leading and/or managing a team

To facilitate discussions relating to eating and drinking with acknowledged risks versus clinically assisted nutrition and hydration (e.g. NGT, PEG) and appropriately discharge

You will be able to access video fluoroscopy clinics.

The Trust/Ward/Department

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is a community-focused organisation that provides physical and mental health services and social care to patients of all ages, with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of all our patients and their families.

Our services are delivered at community bases, hospitals, clinics and in peoples homes operating across the multiple counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES).

Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit based at Abingdon Community Hospital providing short-term inpatient rehabilitation for people who have had a stroke, registered with an Oxfordshire GP and are not able to be discharged directly home from hospital.

The Responsibilities
