Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Speech and Language Therapy Service on the Bank with NHS Professionals. The applicant will be based in the Adult Community team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing a service to intermediate care beds, active recovery service, care homes and patients own homes. The applicant will specialise in the management of patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a Speech & Language Therapy Service to adults with swallowing and communication disorders.
  • To demonstrate specialist knowledge in clinical specialisms underpinned by current evidence based practice.
  • To use specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements/decision making for case management.
  • To make a differential diagnosis on clients communication/swallowing on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate.
  • To develop clear care plans based on best practice.
  • To identify personal/professional development evidenced by Personal Development Plan/ Professional Portfolio developed within an appraisal framework.
  • To work independently accessing appraisal within a Performance Development Review at pre-determined intervals.
  • To participate in Performance Development Reviews ensuring that the objectives set reflect the Service and Trust plans, including specific objectives relating to clinical specialism.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council, and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Experience

Essential

  • Dysphagia accreditation and experience, including management of complex cases in the community
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience
  • Recent experience working within the NHS as an SLT at Band 6 level
  • Experience in working with adults in hospital and community settings
