Job summary
Begin your NHS career with our Healthcare Support Worker Development (HCSWD) programme in Learning Disabilities, where you will receive all the training, support, and supervision you need to become a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW).
We have a unique opportunity to learn on the job at Malvern at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Hospitals Trust.You will join a 6-month paid supervised placement programme.
Work towards your Care Certificate whilst receiving weekly pay, paid annual leave and all the other great benefits NHS Professionals offers our bank members. Once you have successfully completed the programme you will be able to work flexibly at any of our partner Trusts.
Pay Rates:
- Days: £11.44
- Saturdays/Nights: £16.13
- Sunday/Bank Hols: £20.94
Main duties of the job
During your placement, youll learn to care for people with learning disabilities. Youll develop an understanding of each persons strengths and needs to help meet their individual requirements. This may include teaching life skills (i.e., cooking, budgeting) or providing emotional support and advice.
All whilst working towards achieving the widely recognised Care Certificate with the training you need to become a Healthcare Support Worker(HCSW). Throughout, youll have supportive supervision from your mentor/Ward Manager.
Typical duties will involve but not limited to:
- Meeting the daily living needs of your service users, from hygiene to personal and physical comfort.
- Supporting service users mobility, skills to live independently, outdoor activities and assisting at mealtimes.
- Taking basic observations, explaining treatment, and updating records.
- Providing health promotion or health education to service users and families.
- Working individually and as part of a team, supporting registered Nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing care.
- Comply with Trust and local policies and procedures including Safeguarding, Infection Prevention and Control.
Please note that we require:
- You must be over the age of 18 before the planned classroom training week.
- You work at least 30 hours a week across earlies, late's and nights during the programme.
- You have a passion for care and can demonstrate the six enduring values that underpin compassion in practice.
