Job summary

Old Road Surgeryis looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team. This position is offered on a part-time basis for 21 hours per week. Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing tasks.

Main duties of the job

  • Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care;
  • Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples;
  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample;
  • Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible;
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff;
  • Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues;
  • Maintaining accurate records and follow clinical protocols;
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

Serving a patient population of nearly 10,000 within our local community, this is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in patient care.
