GP Assistant

Job summary

Thaxted Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a part-time basis for 20-24 hours per week. Hours to be worked across 5 days, with some flexibility as to start and finish time. School hours possible.

The GPA position is a support role, covering administrative tasks and, if appropriate, some basic clinical duties, to assist the GPs, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time.

The post-holder will form part of our multi-disciplinary, primary-care team and contribute to the smooth running of the surgery. Whilst the following skills and experience are important, we would welcome applications from people who can demonstrate strong transferable skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Understanding and sorting incoming patient letters (either via post or email) to ensure that they are filed correctly and any that require action with the GP/Pharmacist are flagged in a timely manner for action.
  • Scanning and filing all patient information into the patients computerised EMIS records.
  • Data entry of relevant patient information from incoming letters, tests and reports (e.g. looking for diagnoses, investigations, results, history, medication etc.).
  • Recalling and administration for some long-term condition reviews.
  • Phlebotomy (1 session p/week, depending on skill set).
  • Working according to practice protocols and line manager/clinical lead instructions.
  • Dealing with telephone and online enquiries relating to all the above tasks.
  • Attending staff meetings as required.
