Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable dispenser to join our team at Victoria Surgery. The successful candidate will provide safe and efficient dispensing services, supporting our clinical team and ensuring our patients receive their medications in a timely manner. We can consider newly qualified applicants.

The successful candidate will work 24 hours, Tuesday and Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-6.30pm. If you are an experienced dispenser looking for an exciting new role, then we'd love to hear from you.

Interviews will be conducted on-site, week commencing 13th October 2025.

Main duties of the job

  • Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
  • Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
  • Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
  • Process hospital letters;
  • Process dossette boxes;
  • Manage ordering stock and stock control;
  • Answer and deal withdispensary phone enquiries;
  • Monitor patients exemption status;
  • Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication;
  • Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

Victoria Surgery is a well-established and friendly practice in the centre of Bury St Edmunds, caring for a patient population of approximately 11,000.

Our practice team consists of 9 list holding GPs and a dedicated clinical, management, administration and dispensary team, who recognise the importance of a good work-life balance.

We are part of the Bury St Edmunds Primary Care Network and the successful candidate will work alongside a team including paramedics, social prescriber, health and wellbeing coach, care coordinators and a pharmacy technician.
