Healthcare Assistant

The closing date is 29 September 2025

Job summary

SS9 South PCN is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part-time basis, for 15 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence, requiring you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are only looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Support emergency care practitioners (ECPs) in delivering high-quality patient care within the Primary Care Network (PCN).
  • Assist with patient assessments, basic treatments, and monitoring under supervision.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of urgent and primary care services across GP practices, community settings, and home visits.
  • Provide a patient-centred approach, ensuring dignity, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Carry out clinical observations (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation).
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests (e.g., urine dipstick, blood glucose monitoring)
  • Support with wound care, dressings, and removal of sutures/clips (where trained).
  • Assist ECPs during consultations, examinations, and minor procedures.
  • Deliver health promotion, lifestyle advice, and patient education.
  • Accurately document patient information in electronic health records.
  • Support infection prevention and control practices.
  • Accompany ECPs on home visits and provide practical support.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including booking follow-ups, ordering stock, and maintaining supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
