Job summary

We are looking to welcome a qualified dispenser into our busy practice, to play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.

Ideally working 30 hours a week, the successful candidate will work: Monday 8.30-6.30 (1 hour lunch)

Tuesday 8.30-2.30

Wednesday off

Thursday 8.30-2.30

Friday ideally 8.30-6.30 (1 hour lunch), although could be 3.30-6.30

Main duties of the job

  • Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
  • Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
  • Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
  • Process dossette boxes;
  • Manage ordering stock and stock control;
  • Deal withdispensary phone enquiries;
  • Monitor patients exemption status;
  • Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication;
  • Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary lead or practice manager.

  • Excellent clinical and medication knowledge;
  • Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in GP practice setting;
  • The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career;

  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;
