Job summary
The Guildhall and Barrow Surgery has an exciting vacancy for an experienced part time practice nurse to join our friendly team. The ideal candidate will work at both our practice sites for up to 27 hours per week with working days to be confirmed.
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to our practice population.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs.
- Chronic disease management according to protocols.
- Coronary heart disease and contraception.
- Peak flow readings.
- Hypertension management.
- Weight monitoring and support.
- Health promotion.
- First aid and management of emergencies e.g. cardiac arrest, shock, haemorrhage.
- New patient medicals/urinalysis.
- Fall and fracture assessment.
- Learning disability checks.
- Glucometer checks.
- Cytology.
- Wound care/ulcer care.
- Removal of sutures.
- Travel risk assessment, immunisations and advice.
- ECGs.
- Smoking cessation.
- Venepuncture.
- Routine injections.
- Child immunisations.
About us
We are a busy and friendly GP practice working across two sites with a patient list of just over 13,500.
We have 6 GP partners, 6 salaried GP's and 2 GP retainers. We also benefit from a 1 clinical pharmacist, 2 x advanced nurse practitioners and a practice nursing team made up of 3 part time RGN's, 2 part time HCA's, 1 x part time phlebotomist and a PCN nursing associate.
We are a designated training practice and host GP trainees, student nurses and nursing associates. Our CQC rating is 'good'.

- A relevant nursing degree.
- Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
- Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications
- Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.

- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
- Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
- Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
