Job summary

Lea Vale Medical Group has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to join our team as a prescription clerk, on a full time basis for 37.5 hours per week, in our busy medical practice located in Luton town centre.

Main duties of the job

  • Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis ensuring compliance with the practice protocol.
  • Deal with prescription queries from a range of healthcare professionals including; GPs, nurses, community pharmacists, nursing home staff as well as reception/administration staff at the practice.
  • Support the practice pharmacists as required.
  • Deal with medication changes from hospital letters, removing old medication, adding new or making dose changes. Sending letter to patient, including confirmation of changes. Add any relevant monitoring diaries.
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Add new patient medication, pass to registered GP for approval highlighting any concerns found. Liaise with patient via phone call or letter.
  • Ensure medication reviews are arranged with an appropriate clinician.
  • Support the prescribing manager with any aspect of practice administration and clerical duties deemed necessary.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.
  • Previous NHS experience, ideally within a GP setting.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Knowledge of handling data.
