Job summary
King Street Surgery have an exciting opportunity for a practice nurse on a part time basis, for 21 hours per week Wednesday to Friday, to join their friendly, patient focussed team, based across 3 sites in Kempston. Working within a multi-skilled nursing team, including nurse prescribers and HCAs, they are keen to grow the department further. They offer a high quality service, within a mutually supportive and caring environment.
Main duties of the job
- General nursing services.
- Wound care (including 4 layer bandaging/doppler assessments for which training can be given).
- Cervical screening.
- Removal of sutures/staples.
- Contraception/family planning.
- Provide cover for long term illness clinics.
- RBP and urine checks.
- Height/weight checks and dietary advice.
- Care of patients using nebulisers.
- Chaperoning.
- Health promotion.
- Injections and immunisations travel, childhood immunisations, Zoladex, B12, Depo Provera etc.
- Phlebotomy.
- Treatment and clinic rooms, stock control, infection control, etc.

King Street Surgery is a long established dispensing practice, offering a high quality service to patients, within a supportive and caring environment. As a training practice across three sites we are at the forefront of clinical practice and our practice ethos is one which supports training and development. We have a list size of 21,700, with 7 GP partners, 14 salaried GPs, 11 practice nurses, a paramedic and clinical pharmacists who are supported by the management and administration team of 25+.

Essential
- RGN holding current Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
Desirable
- A qualification in Diabetes and/or Asthma/COPD is desirable though not essential.
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening.
- Working towards management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, dressing and wound care.
- Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work.
- The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
- Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
- Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
