Job summary

Fressingfield Medical Centreis looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our friendly and supportive GP practice, to support our nursing team. This is a part-time role for 16 hours per week, Wednesday to Friday, with flexibility to work additional hours to cover absences of colleagues. This role also offers the exciting opportunity to train to become a healthcare assistant.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an, as required, basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
  • Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
  • Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical system
  • The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
  • Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
  • Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
  • Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Ipswich Hospital
  • Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters.
