Job summary

Bennetts End Surgery is looking to expand our patient services team and to recruit a motivated, reliable and conscientious individual, who can make a valuable contribution to our team as a patient services assistant, on a fixed rota, between the hours of 8am and 7.30pm, on a full or part-time basis. You will also need to beavailable to cover Saturday 8am to 12.30pm every 4 weeks.

In this essential front line role, you will ensure that all patients and visitors receive a positive experience of care when they contact or present at the practice. This role requires direct contact with patients, both face-to-face and on the telephone, as well as the efficient undertaking of all administrative duties using both manual and online services.

Main duties of the job

  • Answer telephone calls.
  • Process registrations .
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills across a wide range of media (face-to-face, telephone, in writing, electronically), ensuring that patients & visitors are always appropriately signposted to the relevant personnel or services.
  • Ensure documents & patient discharge summaries are processed through the work-flow system.
  • Book appointments.
  • Support the electronic prescription service.
  • Liaise with voluntary, social & secondary care providers.
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience & a holistic approach to patient care, whilst always behaving with professionalism, efficiency & resilience.
  • Work in accordance with the practices procedures & protocols, keeping accurate records of all patient services interactions & demonstrating a clear commitment to attention to detail & quality.
  • Support the GPs & nurses with the delivery of patient care by undertaking chaperoning duties as appropriate.
  • Understand the common needs & safeguarding issues of vulnerable patient groups & respond appropriately.
  • Understand & work in accordance with the legal, statutory, ethical & regulatory responsibilities of the practice and the NHS.
  • Participate in continuous professional development, thereby contributing to quality improvement across the practice.
  • Undertake ad hoc tasks that assist in the smooth running of the surgery.

Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

Bennetts End Surgery is a large GP practice in Hemel Hempstead, looking after 17,000 patients. We are a forward thinking training practice situated in a purpose built surgery with 25 consulting rooms where we offer a full range of clinical services to the patients we serve, the building also houses a 100 hour pharmacy and MASTA (travel) clinic.
