Job summary

Aveley Medical Centre has a fantastic opportunity for a practice nurse to deliver a high level of skilled nursing care to patients, delegating and supervising others in their delivery of care, taking partial responsibility for the development of nursing policies and procedures within the practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Childhood & other immunisations
  • Resuscitation, anaphylaxis
  • Chronic disease management
  • Tissue viability, wound care plans
  • Travel health advice/injections
  • Women's health including family planning, smears, menopause advice
  • Screening including blood pressure monitoring, venepuncture, ECG recording, blood glucose monitoring
  • Lifestyle advice
  • QOF targets
  • Ensuring stock levels are maintained
  • Ensuring vaccines are ordered timely & the cold chain policy is adhered to.
  • Assisting in home visits & care home visits
  • Providing appropriate care to patients independently or in conjunction with a GP
  • Managing a caseload of patients without supervision in designated care/disease groups
  • Providing advice & care in minor ailments
  • Delivering care, refer to others and/or advise changes in medication in accordance with patient group directives
  • Monitoring effectiveness of own nursing practice
  • Participating in the development of new nursing policies & procedures
  • Participating in clinical audit
  • Sharing knowledge with patients & encourage self-care
  • Participating in the development & updating of protocols, guidelines & procedures relevant to clinical practice
  • Taking responsibility for & lead for infection control procedures/policy & aseptic techniques
  • Keeping updated clinically using PREP requirements
  • Participating in training of pre & post registration students
  • Undertaking or overseeing clinical supervision within the nursing team.

Essential

  • A relevant nursing degree.
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
  • Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications.
  • Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.

  • Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
  • Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
  • Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
