Dispensary Assistant

Job summary

Barton Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a dispensary assistant to join their team. We have a main surgery in Barton-Le-Clay and a branch surgery at Gooseberry Hill Health Centre in Luton.

The role is offered for 20.5 hours per week with the hours below:

• Tuesday: 08.30-13.30
• Wednesday: 08.30-14.30
• Thursday: 13.30- 18.30
• Friday: 08.30-13.30

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities include:

• Answer the telephone and issue authorised repeat prescriptions through the computer.
• Issue authorised repeat prescriptions from written requests.
• Reauthorise as an interim issue, items detailed within the written parameters.
• Where necessary, take details of request and pull relevant notes ready for the doctors at the end of surgery.
• Assist with the dispensing of drugs to patients when required.
• Ensure that all regulations of the various Drug Acts are complied with.
• Collect prescription money from patients and record in line with practice policy.
• Be aware of exemption categories, claims procedures and season ticket provision and explain to the patient where necessary.
• Assist with enquiries from patients including advising of waiting times and collection arrangements.
• Ensure that confidentiality of patient information is respected at all times.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and tidy working environment.
• Any other duties appropriate to the post.

About us

Our practice is well established covering the rural area of Barton-Le-Clay and surrounding villages. There is a branch surgery at Gooseberry Hill covering parts of northern Luton. The aim of the practice is to provide good family medicine in conditions conducive to matching the high expectations of our patients.
