Job summary

Lawson Road Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a medical secretary to join their team on a part time basis for 22.5 hours per week.

This is an essential front-line role at the practice, providing an efficient, comprehensive secretarial and administrative support service to the practice management team. If you are an experienced medical secretary looking for a new and exciting challenge, then we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing a full secretarial service including efficient audio-typing, copy-typing and word processing, for all GPs and health professionals, as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, meeting minutes, memorandums, etc., in an accurate and quality manner;
  • Handling patient and practice queries, regarding hospital appointments and treatments, confidentially;
  • Ensuring that any requests for information from medical records are appropriately dealt with, according to practice policy, and that all subsequent charges are invoiced appropriately;
  • Arranging meetings (to include the booking of rooms) as required;
  • Designing template letters and forms for use throughout the practice, as required;
  • Maintaining the computer-based clinic system, in an accurate and secure manner;
  • Assisting with the gathering of statistics and information, when required;
  • Performing any reasonable administrative tasks, as requested by the practice manager.

We are a long-established city centre practice close to the heart of Norwich and offer a triage led appointment system on SystmOne.

Our list is size is 8600 which continues to grow with new developments locally. We are a teaching practice and work closely with UEA supporting years 3, 4 and 5. We are a research active practice. We have a CQC rating of Good We are looking for someone who wants to develop in their role with support of the practice and colleagues, and who wants to provide a caring and professional service to our varied patient base.

The practice team consist of 5 GP partners, clinical pharmacist partner, 2 salaried GPs, 1 registrar, nursing team, care co-ordinator, patient services administration team and a range of ARRS from the PCN.
