Job summary

North Shoebury Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a experienced / newly qualified practice nurse to join our team on a full time basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests.
  • Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients health and social care needs are met.

About us

North Shoebury Surgery is based on Frobisher way, Shoeburyness SS3 8UT. We wereone of the first partnerships in Essex made up of a GP and ACP. The surgery is forward thinking and continue the thrive looking at various options to increase patient care within the community. We are passionate about our patients and care provided, we work closely with the PCN and utilise the additional services provided to help avoid hospital visitation. We strongly support nurse training, and are looking to strengthen this in becoming a GP training practice in the future. The management team will support and help develop skills of staff and encourage and provide training where possible to progress within their roles. We support and train staff to the best of their abilities, we are a working family that work well together. Our aim is to be the best we can be and stand out being proactive and productive within Primary care, we want to be the surgery staff want to work with and encourage others to join us. We also offer the NHS Pension Scheme and a minimum of33 days FTE Annual Leave.

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests.

  • General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
  • Managing and treating long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs.
  • Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national and practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for family planning and cervical cytology consultations.
  • Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad.
  • Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care.
  • Hypertension review and management.
  • Running asthma, COPD and diabetes clinics and reviews.
  • New patient and health checks.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A relevant nursing degree.
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
  • Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications; we would also be willing to consider a candidate with suitable experience for the role, whilst the do FoPN course
  • Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.

Experience

  • Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.
  • Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
  • Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
