Job summary

Woodhall Farm Medical Centre has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join the team at our small, friendly practice based in Hemel Hempstead, on a full or part-time basis, depending on the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

  • New patient checks
  • Pre-diabetic and NHS health checks, asthma and COPD checks
  • Cytology screening
  • Wound care
  • Removal of sutures
  • Urine analysis
  • Ear syringing
  • Hypertension management including 24 blood pressure monitors
  • Diabetic and CHD management
  • Carrying out ECGs
  • Repeating contraception and depo administration
  • Respiratory clinics including spirometry
  • Travel risk assessment including immunisations
  • Childhood immunisations
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil clinics
  • Requesting pathology tests
  • Using clinical judgement to detect early signs of physical or mental stress and take appropriate action
  • Participating in health education
  • Keeping accurate records and managing stock of vaccines and other equipment
  • Maintaining adequate stock of vaccines, equipment, drugs, dressing, etc.
  • Continuing nurse education and developing skills and qualifications

Qualifications

Essential

  • A relevant nursing degree
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN
  • Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Experience and competent in general treatment room duties
  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients
  • Practice Nurse Qualification/Experience of working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Practice
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS

Desirable

  • Experience in managing long term conditions such as diabetes, asthma and COPD, wound care and dressings, ear syringing, cervical smears, contraceptive advice, travel vaccinations and child immunisations.
  • Current (within the last 12 months) emergency resuscitation training certificate.
  • Experience of EMIS Web Clinical System.
