Clinical
Duties
GPs are responsible for
planning their own day and patient lists, prioritising their askmyGP caseload and
providing a suitable consultation in terms of telephone, video or face to face
where required.
You will be given the
flexibility to manage your own face to face appointments in partnership with
the patient, deciding the appointment length. From time to time, you may be
required to see a patient that has been booked in by another member of the
clinical team. You will take your share of extra consultations where demand is
excessive in line with any GP within the surgery.
It is expected that you deal
on a daily basis with telephone queries from patients or other health care
professionals in your administrative time.
You will undertake
administrative duties and deputise the clinical team for example reviewing results
and processing prescriptions. As a
patient centred practice, you can be allocated your own and a share of a
colleagues workload to facilitate service. This load is not intended to be
onerous and should be raised with the relevant GP partner if this burden is
impacting on other duties.
Clinical duties will include
seeing people with acute conditions, on-going chronic conditions which will
also include reviews based on the QOF and you will be expected to add the
relevant coding to any patient file and report any errors. The Surgery will provide
QOF training on request.
Administration/paperwork
The surgery believes that the
job plan allows sufficient time in the day to complete all administrative
duties related to your clinical work, recognising the fact that all
practitioners work at different rates.
Referrals should be completed
on a daily basis.
Investigations and referrals
should be completed and associated documentation dealt with within appropriate
timescales or communicated to a colleague if you are prevented from keeping
within the appropriate timescales.

complete examinations and reports for any external agency in line with agreed
policy and those expected under the GMS contract on patients known to you. Additionally,
you may be expected to complete reports requested by other parties such as
insurance companies, OFSTED and employers.
You will be expected to use
appropriate processes for computerised record keeping including computerised
clinical templates and protocols as well as ensuring that significant information
as determined by the practice is recorded accurately e.g. all QOF domains. You
will take part in reconciling information input periodically.
Continual
Professional Development
We really value your continual
professional development and professionalism and to that end we will allocate
time for mentoring, buddying and peer support. We encourage open dialogue and
conversation that will assist you with your personal development and growth.
There is an expectation that
you may attend where possible operational meetings and clinical governance
meetings. Meetings will be scheduled in a way that helps facilitate this.
The surgery is committed to
the highest standards of evidence-based medicine and supporting colleagues in
achieving this. You will be encouraged to participate in discussions on
clinical practice standards, developing practice protocols, mutual professional
support for individual practitioners and colleagues, audit, significant event
reporting and analysis, meetings with external colleagues in the locality,
Primary Care Trust etc., when these occur, it is accepted that adjustments to
clinical workload will be required. We really value opportunities for you to
share knowledge through effective team working which will enhance your
development.
The surgery has access to an
online training forum via Teamnet and E-Learning for Health and you will be
given log in access to the site and expected to undertake all statutory
mandatory training. This is in addition to you own contractually obliged
professional training. It is expected that you attend surgery training sessions
delivered on site and off site when you are able. You will also have access to
locally run training courses via the Somerset GP Education Trust of which the
surgery is a member.
Individually
agreed areas of particular interest or responsibility
In order to support your
development and learning we will encourage you to become responsible for
particular areas of practice development.
We want you to feel that you can
utilise your skills, particular expertise and interest. You may have the
opportunity to develop and provide an additional clinical service which
enhances the surgery and we will support you with formalised contractual
arrangements once mutual agreement is reached.
You may be expected to be
responsible for an area of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).

and will be agreed upon your appointment. Any changes will be fully agreed with
you.
