Job summary
As a Trainee/Qualified AAA Screening Technician you will undertake ultrasound screening examinations and assess ultrasound images to deliver accurate results to patients and patient GP's, and provide appropriate information, advice and reassurance to patients.
The post holder will also ensure that the men attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening in relation to surveillance and treatment pathways.
Main duties of the job
- Undertaking all required duties in accordance with current NAAASP guidelines and local protocol including obtaining informed consent and putting patients at ease, clearly explaining the reasons for their invitation and answering any queries/concerns Communicating screening test outcomes (this may be directly to the patient or via his relative/carer or interpreter)
- Following the relevant protocol in terms of keeping the Screening Manager and Clinical Skills Trainer (CST) informed of any issues/concerns regarding patient welfare and seeking advice where necessary
- Accurately recording data and abiding by the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018
- Complying with health & safety regulations Using existing knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the abdominal aorta to identify the area to be scanned and any measurements taken which are outside the normal range, or demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the above
- Being personally responsible for checking all recorded screening outcomes against patient information to avoid issuing of incorrect scan results.
