Job summary

The post holder will be part of the Partnerships and Equality team, working with our members, external partners and colleagues across the Confederation. They will be line managed by the Assistant Director and maintain strong links with all members of the team, supporting their work with excellent programme management/delivery. This will include direct involvement in the many work streams and contracts being delivered by the team.

Main duties of the job

As Programme & Business Manager in the Partnerships and equality team, you will support members of our team by providing business and budget planning and management. You will also support the development and delivery of a range of programmes and projects across our work plan and EDI leadership networks. This includes:

  • Working closely with members, NHS leaders, external partners and colleagues across the NHS Confederation.
  • Ensuring project plans have clear outcomes and deliverables. Monitor and keep plans to agreed timescales and budget.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the work programmes.
  • Preparing and presenting written materials such as reports, briefings, and other information relevant to the work plans aims and objectives.
  • Leading on programme management for the BME Leaders Network.
You will work collaboratively across the team and the organisation to help shape and deliver new member offers tackling workforce and/or health inequalities.

Job responsibilities

The role encompasses:

  • Programme management and delivery of a range of projects drawn from the Partnership and Equality Teams workplan
  • Providing business and budget management for the team and assisting with business and budget planning.
  • Working collaboratively across the team and the organisation to develop and deliver new member offers tackling workforce and/or service inequalities.
  • Delivering programmes through supporting and facilitating leaders and clinicians within the NHS, for example across Integrated Care Systems and/or NHS provider organisations.
  • Engaging with communities served by the NHS as a key component of programme delivery.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of work programmes for the EDI Leadership Networks, leading on programme management for the BME Leaders Network.
Responsibilities

Programme Management and Delivery

  • Develop new project plans as required, working with team members, the wider NHS Confederation, and project partners, ensuring active involvement of those concerned in project delivery, and providing excellent communication as projects progress.
  • Maintain project plan details, relevant communications and reports. Set up and manage project meetings, maintain agendas and notes to support programme delivery, and prepare progress reports. Support the lead of the project and liaise across sub leads for specific project actions.
  • Troubleshoot as required to keep projects to time and flag up any barriers or issues concerning delivery of actions within the projects.
  • Deliver programmes in a collaborative style, upskilling and building expertise with partners to the Programme, so that a legacy offer is constructed as a key part of the offer.
Business and Budget Management

  • Ensure team members are supported with business planning and management processes adhering to the policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Ensure budget updates and returns are submitted on time, as agreed with the Director.
  • Prepare contracts for projects and project support as required in line with organisational procedures.
  • Manage programme budgets as required where NHS Confederation acts as holder of a collaborative project fund.
  • Provide secretariat support as required to a range of member forums, advisory groups, programme collaboration and steering groups.
Policy and influencing

  • Have an understanding of the range of existing and new policy relevant to the work of the team and healthcare space, supporting the programmes being developed and delivered by members of the team.
  • Take the learning from our programmes and utilise this to inform and influence both internally and externally, led by NHS Confederation Policy and Communication teams.
Communication

  • Work with Comms leads to prepare content supporting programme delivery and for presenting offers for Members, through whichever Comms channels are appropriate.
  • Prepare and present material for our members, partners and stakeholders as part of our work streams and delivery of programmes.
Stakeholder and member relationship building

  • Manage and develop specific expertise and stakeholder relationships in the EDI/Equality space, working collectively with team members, colleagues across the NHS Confederation and external partners, in the delivery of programmes, products and member offers.
  • Support as appropriate member forums, Steering Groups and Workstream Groups.
Leadership

  • Contribute to the development of an effective, inclusive, high performing team supporting our members across the health and care system.
  • Optimise the allocation of time and resources to work projects to make the best of the capacity, skills and budget available.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Directors with the development of the annual business plan, work programmes and budget setting.
  • Invest in own personal development through feedback and continuous learning, and support the personal development of others in the team.

  • Proven programme management expertise and experience of successfully delivering complex projects
  • Experience of producing written briefings and reports, and delivering presentations to internal and external audiences. Ability to tailor the content and delivery to the needs of the audience.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience of applying evidence based initiatives to tackle inequality in healthcare settings.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including being personally credible and influential with senior leaders and stakeholders. Developing and delivering insightful thought leadership, and managing complex relationships at a senior level.
  • Experience of representing an organisation to outside bodies.
  • Able to use initiative, prioritise and work with minimum supervision. Flexible and agile in a rapidly changing environment. Able to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines at the same time.
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of working in and with senior teams in an inclusive collaborative manner.
