Job summary

In an increasingly global marketplace, the NHS needs to look beyond national borders. Main duties of the job

Specifically, you will interact with the UK government and with health sector stakeholders in the European Union on implementation of the UK-EU Trade and Co-operation agreement, managing the consequences of Brexit for the NHS in the interest of patients and the services on which they rely.

Job responsibilities

The Head of International Policy will:

  • lead on engaging with decision makers and partners in the UK, Europe and wider afield to identify the risks and opportunities for the NHS from legislation, policy and activities that affect our health services, directly or indirectly
  • support our members in taking appropriate action to mitigate those risks and seize opportunities.
About you

  • Demonstrable experience of policy and strategy delivery and development.
  • Able to demonstrate in depth knowledge and understanding of EU systems and affairs: institutions, decision making processes, stakeholders and channels of influence.
  • Inclusive leader with experience and understanding of all areas of line management.
  • Evidence of excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, demonstrating ability to interpret complex developments, deliver insight, identify implications for policy and action and suggest solutions.
  • Track record of leveraging effective stakeholder engagement, gaining the respect and confidence of external and internal partners and building alliances to effect desired outcomes
  • Experience of operating in a complex environment with many organisations simultaneously, acting on own initiative within a wider team and managing competing demands and pressures to deliver results.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with workforce and trade policy, ideally in the healthcare context.
  • Experience of providing support and challenge at a senior level
  • Experience of policy work working in and with government, the NHS, multilateral organisations, or a membership body
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners.
