Job responsibilities

As a Communications Manager, you will:

  • Support the work of our member networks by creating creative communication and marketing plans that attract and retain members of NHS Confederation oversee a strategic and proactive approach to our member communications activity, ensuring we produce high quality content that meets the needs of our members.
  • Develop and deliver communications plans for our key influencing reports, events and other activities.
  • Create materials that showcase the good practice of our members and ways they can learn from one another including video and audio case studies and podcasts.
In this role, you would play a key role in helping to advocate and influence on behalf of our members through top quality communications to secure the best possible outcomes for their communities.

  • Experience of developing communications and marketing plans, with a clear understanding of how to use the right channels to target the right audiences.
  • Clear experience of working in a busy environment with multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Experience of delivering high quality communications outputs with a fast turnaround - including bulletins and social media copy.
  • Good knowledge of communications and marketing techniques.
  • Good knowledge of using social media channels to engage professional audiences.
  • Excellent written skills writing and drafting communications products that reach out to a range of different audiences that make complex topics easy to read.
  • Project management and organisational skills in order to work at pace, with experience of supporting the management and delivery of projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence, including when dealing with senior individuals.
  • Excellent IT skills (including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint), and a working knowledge of CRM systems and email marketing platforms.
  • Ability to work on own, as well as part of a team. Flexible and able to reorganise and reprioritise work at short notice, using own judgement and initiative.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a membership organisation, ideally in health.
  • Experience of working in a communications role in a public policy environment.
  • Experience of working in the healthcare sector
  • Experience of account management, matrix working and/or service multiple (internal or external) customers
  • Knowledge of the NHS Confederations work and its membership landscape.
  • Knowledge of the primary care, acute, mental health or community health services sector.
  • Project management experience, with knowledge of systems and processes.
