Job summary

This new post will play a key role in embedding the NHS Confederations Anti-Racism Strategy and ensuring action flows from the strategys objectives. The focus of the role sits within the Tackling Inequality Programme of the NHS Confederation, supporting senior leaders across the NHS to deliver action against workforce inequality and health inequality for their population, building leadership capacity and capability to support achievement of the Public Sector Equality Duty, and thereby improving access, experience and outcomes for patients and users of the NHS.

Main duties of the job

As the NHS Confederation Race Equality Lead you will:

  • Play a key role in embedding the organisations Anti-Racism Strategy ensuring action flows from the strategys objectives, so that our own practice is improved and becomes business as usual.
  • Influence and support the improvement journey for senior leaders across the NHS as you work with the NHS Confederations Networks to offer our Members resources and tools to deliver cultural change in their organisations.
  • Facilitate and guide peer to peer learning to share learning and implement best practice, forming what good looks like for Members organisations.

The post holder will be part of the EDI team, working with our members, external partners and colleagues across the Confederation. They will be line managed by the Director of Partnerships and Equality.

The role is to embed the NHS Confederations Anti-Racism Strategy, internally within the .organisation and externally with our Members and partners to form Member offers. This will require an inclusive improvement approach, embedding learning and good practice, to deliver cultural change. The post holder will be a subject matter expert, with the ability and skills to guide and support senior NHS leaders to lead improvement for their organisations, as well as supporting improvement across the NHS Confederation Networks and teams.

Essential

  • Experience in developing solutions to address Racism, working closely with very senior health and care leaders and professionals; managing complex stakeholder relationships to deliver transformative solutions.
  • EDI subject matter knowledge and expertise, with experience of implementing strategy, supporting and working through others to embed cultural change.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including being personally credible and influential with senior leaders and stakeholders. Developing and delivering insightful thought leadership, and managing complex relationships at a senior level.
  • Experience of formulating and managing complex programmes of work, from scoping and design through to completion, in rapidly changing environments and uncertainty, delivering diverse portfolios of work with competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working with senior leaders in an inclusive collaborative manner to get results.
  • Strong intellectual ability to analyse and interpret policy and data, combined with insight from leaders, to identify opportunities to develop transformational proposals, together with demonstrable personal impact, influencing and negotiating skills.

Desirable

  • Previous working relationships with relevant national bodies and external stakeholders which may be influential in developing transformative offers.
  • Experience of working in the healthcare field and knowledge of current developments and challenges facing leaders within healthcare.
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation.
  • Experience in developing and implementing transformation strategies in line with organisational strategic goals, and practical solutions.
  • Ability to develop tactics and handling strategies for dealing with complex and/or contentious issues.
