Widnes Highfield Health is a GP federation committed to developing and improving healthcare services for the residents of Halton
Widnes Highfield and associated Practices have 6 Trainee General Practice Assistant (GPA) vacancies available (5 roles on a substantive basis and 1 on a 6 month contract with a view to becoming permanent)

Main duties of the job
The GP assistant would be trained to do the following-
Clinical Duties-
Patient
health checks in the practice, patients home or care home, to include phlebotomy, height, weight,
blood pressure readings, ECGs & urine sampling and to record all
information within the clinical record in line with practice procedure.
Diabetic
foot review
Identify
abnormal findings as per the practice protocol and discuss with the appropriate
clinician.
Stock
checking of clinical rooms
Administrative Duties-
To take
part in the reception duties- answer
incoming calls to the practice and sign post patients appropriately. Register
and deduct patients
To take
part in the admin and secretarial duties- deal with daily post and Docman system. Type letters and refer. Summarise records and
re code relevant data in the clinical system.
To be involved in the patient recall system, with the use of software
such as Accurx and patches
Training would be provided on site.
The trainee would be
encouraged to take part in the GPA
Skills certificate by Health Education England. This is an accredited training
programme based on a competency framework.
Salary- starting £22816 per annum completing HEE and onsite training the salary
after 12 months could achieve c25K.

Job responsibilities
Duties
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
Support the GP with immunisations/wound care
