Job summary

The role of the Clinical Education Specialist (CES) is to be the locality link into the Greater Manchester Training Hub (GMTH).

The aim of the role is to build relationships within the specified locality (Wigan) and to support the development and delivery of training and education programmes.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring that learning opportunities are maximised by the Primary Care workforceby delivering & evaluating training & development programmes.

Identifying trends in work-based learning & work in partnership with managers & staff to ensure learning needs are met.

Identifying &promoting opportunitiesfor partnership working in the field of education & development across a range of professional groups & agencies, including arranging & supporting practice placements for Physician Associates, Paramedics, Nursing students & other Allied Health Professionals.

Liaising with HEIs regarding practice placement issues including discussing student performance.

Providing pastoral care & support to students on clinical placement.

Influencing practice managers & practice educators to continue to offer quality placements in times of great demands on clinicians & services, helping to address barriers such as lack of funding, time, & space for students.

Evaluating partnership working to identify areas for improvement.

Acting as a representative for education at local, regional, & national meetings.

Representing Wigan locality,ensuring that national quality standards are met within practice placements to provide the highest quality.

Representingthe Training Hub at locality steering groups & attending any other locality meetings to advise on learning opportunities & keep up to date on service developments.

Developing new & auditing existing clinical learning environments.

Job responsibilities

The CES will be a representative for education at local, regional, & national meetings. The post holder will represent their locality of the training hub, ensuring that national quality standards are met within practice placements to provide a learners experience of the highest quality, & will include developing new & auditing existing clinical learning environments.

The post holder must have the ability to identify trends in work-based learning & work in partnership with managers & staff to ensure the learning needs of learners are met & will include the use of e-learning.

The CES will ensure that learning opportunities are maximised in the workplace for all staff by delivering & evaluating training & development programmes & implementing changes reflective of evidence gathered.

The CES will identify & promote opportunities for partnership working in the field of education & development across a range of professional groups & agencies, including HEIs, Open University, Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Colleges of Further Education etc. Including arranging & supporting practice placements for Physician Associates, Paramedics, Nursing students & other Allied Health Professionals.

The CES will demonstrate the ability to build effective working relationships with staff & colleagues in supporting learning to include representing the Training Hub at locality steering groups & attending any other locality meetings to advise on learning opportunities & keep up to date on service developments.

The CES will evaluate partnership working using both formal & informal feedback, identifying areas for improvements as necessary, for example reviewing & revising the Access to Nursing induction programme as part of Service Improvement, supporting staff, applying appropriate improvement methodologies, & presenting the results to their teams.

The CES will use their expertise to assess the need for increased participation in education activities whilst ensuring quality of healthcare provision by the Primary Care workforce.

The CES will recognise the need for & work to actively increase the availability of practice placements whilst ensuring a consistency in the quality of placements available for the training & educating of AHPs within Primary Care in Greater Manchester.

The CES will be instrumental in influencing practice managers & practice educators to continue to offer quality placements in times of great demands on clinicians & services, helping to address barriers such as lack of funding, time, & space for students.

The post holder will liaise with HEIs regarding practice placement issues including discussing student performance with personal tutors, practice supervisors/assessors, & academic assessor, helping to solve problems by negotiating actions to be taken in cases of underperformance.

Develop & maintain communication networks & close working relationships with directors, managers, practice supervisors/assessors, & HEIs, including group discussions & one-to one meetings about providing & enhancing learning opportunities for students, identifying, & establishing electronic forums for information exchange.

Appropriately tailor communication of information to audience, including increasing awareness of GMTH programmes available within locality.

Manage time effectively to achieve required outcomes within constraints of projects.

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Graduate qualification in education or other relevant experience
  • Strong working knowledge of IT packages i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and working virtually via MS Teams
