Job summary

Together First CIC, Barking & Dagenham’s GP Federation, is looking for a project manager capable of leading medium sized health and social care projects within the borough. These projects could range from health inequalities improvement projects to launching a new immunisation scheme. It’s an ideal step up to Band 8 leadership for an ambitious project manager looking for project delivery work in a very deprived London borough.

Although this role is based in Barking & Dagenham, it is expected that you will work primarily from home with occasional trips in to meet for face to face meetings, both internally and with our partners in health, social care and the voluntary sector.

An ideal candidate for our team is someone who can work independently and remotely, while also providing help to more junior staff running smaller projects and change efforts.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the competent management and delivery of one or more simultaneous projects, these projects will typically be the most complex and high profile of those run by the Federation. They will ensure value for money, responsiveness, competent management, and communication of projects and thereby contributing to the professional standing of the Federation.

The Senior Project Manager will also act provide the day-to-day guidance and leadership for other staff running projects within the Federation.

Job responsibilities

Business Focus

· To ensure the competent management and delivery of one or more projects at any one time.

· To ensure projects are delivering cost estimated and delivered to budget.

· To ensure value for money, responsiveness, competent management of projects and the development of a professional reputation for the Federation.

· To work with the Federation team in ensuring that all projects are correctly scoped and have a suitable mandate before start.

Customer Focus

· Provide a professional and proactive project management service.

· To ensure the projects are delivered on time, on budget, with proactive communication re project progress and adherence to required standards and policies.

Delivery Focus

· Deliver projects in compliance with agreed project management processes and procedures.

· Apply the approved project management methodologies.

· Deliver projects within agreed budgets, quality, and timescales.

· Deliver the projects so that they can be effectively handed over for ongoing support

· This role will be responsible for taking on the most important projects within the project portfolio and assisting other project managers with complex queries around their own work, becoming a subject matter expert for project management work.

· Provide decision making capacity taking the wider programme set perspective.

· Assess and manage any cross project dependencies, within their programme of works.

· Deliver multiple projects within agreed budgets, quality, and timescales. – use economies of scale where possible, and coordination to reduce costs and risks.

· Provide timely and added value reports to clients regarding the trends and performance of projects and programmes.

· Accurately track costs incurred by each assigned project/programme.

· Maintain focus on the long term outcomes and benefit stream for each programme.

· Negotiate with suppliers for the supply of goods and services, ensuring they are fit for purpose, conform to applicable standards, represent value for money and contractually meet the needs of the health community. To manage the delivery of those goods and services to comply with contractual commitments.

· Create and maintain strong and effective business relationships in order to proactively drive a professional service.

· Undertake programme tracking to include reporting and tracking of milestones and dependencies, resource requirements, and risk management.

· Maintain logs for risks, issues, change control and lessons learned, and evaluate for trends as appropriate.

· Regularly audit projects to ensure compliance to the agreed commissioning process and the project management processes and procedures.

Leadership and Management

· To actively contribute to the development of the Federation projects strategy.

· To keep abreast of developments in new technology and its implementation to follow best practice.

· Develop and maintain strong relationships pre, during, and post project.

· To act as team mentor and example of good practice for the other project managers in the team, encouraging their development and enhancing their skills.

· Provide peer assistance in the planning and execution of new and upgraded services run by others within the Federation

· Build harmonious and effective relationships producing a consistently high standard of service.

· Flexibility to travel to meetings and other locations in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.
