Job summary

Working under the direct supervision of a member of the nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines, patient specific directions and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing services. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Healthcare Assistant will deliver care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education. The Healthcare Assistant will be required to provide excellent service delivery to patients across multiple practices.

The core hours for this role are currently Monday-Friday from 4pm-8pm and required to cover 1 day of the weekend. This might change according to business needs with possibility of daytime shifts.

Main duties of the job

According to level of training, the Healthcare Assistant will support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing services. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment and the general public
  • Clinical knowledge and skills
  • Wound care / removal of sutures & staples
  • ECGs, Venepuncture, Spirometry
  • New patient medicals inc. Height, weight, BP, Pulse
  • Chaperone procedure
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
  • EMIS / SystmOne / Vision user skills
  • Effective time management (Planning and Organising)
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
