Job summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant works under the clinical supervision of an experienced occupational therapist. Providing technical and creative skills to support the planning and delivery of a flexible, client centered programme of therapeutic activities for individuals and groups of clients. The OTA will design, implement, develop and co-ordinate a programme of activities to suit varied environments, tasks and clients.

Main duties of the job

Nestlings Care Ltd is an independent organisation registered with CQC and Ofsted to provide specialist residential placements for young people and young adults with mental health difficulties.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will contribute to specialist OT assessments and assist service users to develop their daily skills and will be responsible for ensuring that areas such as kitchen and/ or activity rooms within the designated work area meet Health and Safety requirements. Administration tasks include written progress summaries and inputting own contact with service users onto the Service computer system.

Nestlings Care Ltd is an independent care provider for Children and Young Adults registered with CQC and Ofsted who provide highly specialist residential placement for young people with challenging behaviors due to mental health diagnoses. Our aim is to take young people from various restrictive settings, for example, hospitals or secure childrens homes, to a homely environment to offer them a chance of living in the community with robust monitoring, risk management and comprehensive treatment plans. You will work alongside a Registered Manager and a highly experienced multi-disciplinary Mental Health team. Currently we have several homes across the North West of England and we have achieved positive outcomes with a number of young people.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work closely as a part of the multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of programme of house or community based therapeutic activities.

Based on the therapists evaluation and referral The Occupational Therapy Assistant will suggest and implement a range of methods that support the client to achieve agreed treatment aims, monitoring progress and feeding back regularly to referring occupational therapist.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will, in consultation with the occupational therapist, evaluate their programme of activities.

Ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and service standards.

Be aware of current risk factors and plan intervention accordingly assuring safe and smooth running of the service and clients treatment.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will single-handedly facilitate group or individual work and independently plan the treatment methods. These methods will be fed back to the team.

Continually assess and monitor clients progress - taking account of their environment, their presentation and the activity.

Be expert in engaging clients in activity.
