Job Summary:
The principal role of the post holder
will be to provide medical input and act as the Responsible Clinician to
inpatients on the unit. This includes participation in multi-disciplinary
assessments of referrals, ward rounds and Care Programme Approach (CPA)
reviews. The post holder will also participate in the ongoing development of the low secure service at The Langford
Centre. A specialty doctor provides input and
oversees the day-to-day management of all patients on the wards. The post
holder will prepare reports for the Managers, Mental Health Tribunals, the
Ministry of Justice, Courts and CPA reviews, and also undertake assessment of
referrals to the unit. The postholder will be
responsible to provide reciprocal, flexible on-call cover in association with
other medical colleagues at other Bramley Health hospital sites. The postholder
will be fully registered with the General Medical Council.

The Langford
Centre is situated in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex and has excellent transport
links to central London and other areas in the South East of England. It is
situated within 10 minutes walk of the Town Centre, Train Station, local
Leisure Centre and other amenities. There are also regular buses which makes
travelling very easy.
The Langford Centre provides a comprehensive range
of treatments tailored to individual needs, for patients in both Low secure,
Locked rehabilitation and Residential environments.
The care pathway at the Langford Centre is designed
to enable patients to move along the pathway, as determined by individual
needs. Patients can move from Low Security and Complex needs services our
Locked Rehabilitation services whilst being supported by the same
multi-disciplinary team. Community-based housing in close proximity to the
Langford Centre provides the last step in patients' care pathway, before
independent or semi-independent living in the community.
The Langford Centre has Good rating in the most
recent CQC inspection in all the five domains.

The centre is composed of five wards;
Balmoral: Women's Mental Health/Personality
Disorder step down locked rehabilitation
Cooden Lodge: Male - Locked rehabilitation service
for men with complex and enduring mental health conditions
Daffodil Ward: Womens Challenging Behaviour and
Complex Needs Service
Pevensey Ward: Male - Low Secure Service
Seaford: Male - Locked rehabilitation service for
men with complex and enduring mental health conditions.
The Person:
We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist who
wants the opportunity to work in a looked rehabilitation environment with both
men and women who have complex needs and forensic/challenging behaviour. We
need a dynamic, creative, hardworking consultant to provide clinical leadership
working with the MDT. This post is likely to suit someone who has had
experience in working in this type of environment. The post will be based at
the Langford Centre in Bexhill-on-Sea. The post will be supported by a
multidisciplinary team and 0.5 of a Specialty Doctor.
Professional Standards
The Bramley Health Group and The Langford Centre
believe in the highest standards of professional practice. The post holder will be required to follow all General Medical Council
(GMC) guidance on the principles of Good Medical Practice. In addition other
key professional codes and standards including the Mental Health Act Code of
Practice and the National Minimum Care Standards must be adhered to. The post
holder will be required to be registered with the Royal College of
Psychiatrists for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and to participate
in continuing professional development as required by the General Medical
Council, appraisal and revalidation. The Langford Centre supports an active
internal CPD programme which includes regular lectures given by external
speakers along with audit meetings. There are plans afoot to establish a
journal club.

Working Relationships
The
Hospital Director of The Langford Centre is Vanessa Lee Shue Ling. The post
holder will be managerially accountable to the Hospital Director. The
postholder will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director. The post
will be subject to annual IPDR and professional appraisal. The post holder will
work as a team player with all members of staff, to achieve the efficient
running of the service for patients.
PRINCIPAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
People
Management
Recruit, deploy
and induct suitably qualified medical staff to meet patient need within agreed
service limitations.
Line manage
Specialty Doctor.
Conduct
Individual Performance Development Reviews (IPDR) in line with service
objectives and professional standards
Manage medical
staff attendance, including sickness monitoring and authorised leave.
Ensure medical
staff work in accordance with agreed standards of professional practice,
legislation and organisational policies.
Lead and
contribute to investigations, grievance and disciplinary processes, in line
with organisational policy.
Generate a
culture that enhances staff retention.
Professional
Leadership and Supervision
Ensure
supervision for medical staff, ensuring their compliance with relevant
professional guidelines and provide professional leadership.
Demonstrate
ability to review and reflect upon own practice through effective professional
supervision.
Ensure
that all medical staff undergo IPDR and annual medical appraisal.
Undertake
appraiser training, maintain your knowledge of the appraisal process and
conduct appraisals annually of doctors who have asked you to be their
appraiser.
Establish clear
team goals through clinical leadership.
Financial
Management and Business Opportunities
Assist on aspects
of business planning for the looked rehab service, as requested by the Hospital
Director.
Establish network
of relevant contacts

Represent the
profession on and lead organisational committees and groups as indicated by the
Hospital Director.

strategies to promote professional practice.
Lead professional

Lead the
development and maintenance of professional documentation.
Establish clear

Clinical
Carry a clinical
caseload / undertake clinical work that is complementary to specialist,
professional and generic skills.
Undertake
referral and other clinical assessment duties as required.
Work
collaboratively with consultants colleagues and the MDT to provide safe and
high quality service for patients
Strategic

As a senior
clinician and member of the Langford Centre Clinical Governance Group,
contribute actively to quality assurance across the Service.
Attend statutory
and mandatory training and monitor staffs compliance with statutory and
mandatory training requirements.
Actively
undertake measures to meet targets for organisational Key Performance
Indicators.
Lead the
monitoring and audit of professional provision, revising practice to ensure
standards are maintained.
