Job summary

Timeout Homes is seeking a HCPC-registered clinician with 3-5 years of post-qualification experience to provide therapeutic support to children in care. The role involves conducting specialist assessments, implementing evidence-based interventions, and supporting young peoples emotional well-being across residential homes and schools. The clinician will also offer consultation, risk assessment, and training for staff while maintaining professional records and receiving supervision. Timeout Homes prioritises a systemic and compassionate approach, aiming to create lasting positive change for vulnerable children. Salary is based on experience (Band 6-7), with potential for preceptorship to Band 8a.

Main duties of the job

  1. Specialist Assessments Conduct in-depth psychological assessments for children, including cognitive evaluations, self-report measures, and structured observations to understand their emotional and mental health needs.

  2. Evidence-Based Interventions Develop and implement tailored intervention plans based on psychological frameworks to support children's emotional well-being and improve parent-child relationships.

  3. Therapeutic Support Provide a range of psychotherapeutic interventions to children in residential homes and educational settings, adapting approaches based on individual needs.

  4. Treatment Planning & Evaluation Assess and decide on treatment options, considering psychological models, developmental history, and complex influencing factors. Regularly monitor and evaluate progress.

  5. Risk Assessment & Management Identify and manage risks for children and their families, ensuring safety and well-being.

  6. Collaboration & Consultation Work closely with staff, parents, and external professionals, offering expert guidance on mental health care.

  7. Communication & Reporting Maintain clear, accurate records in line with HCPC and service policies. Share assessment results and treatment plans sensitively with relevant stakeholders.

  8. Training & Supervision Participate in professional supervision and training while providing advice and support to colleagues working with the children.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Provide specialist assessments of young children referred to the service, including but not limited to cognitive assessments, self-report measures, and direct or indirect structured observations.
  • Formulate and implement plans for evidence-based interventions, based on an appropriate conceptual framework, employing methods supported by evidence of efficacy to improve the parent-child relationship.
  • Implement a range of psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual and the family.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • Provide specialist mental health advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to the care of the young child and their parents or carers.
  • Contribute to and use evidence-based, integrated working tools and processes to ensure young children and their parents or carers receive holistic and co-ordinated services in response to their mental health needs.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for young children and their parents or carers.
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, providing information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of young children and their parents or carers under their care.
  • Monitor progress during the course of interventions, ensuring that all interventions are fully assessed, planned, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Maintain accurate and accessible healthcare records according to service and HCPC policy and information governance requirements.
  • Demonstrate high-level communication skills, both written and verbal, within all agencies.
  • Receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior colleagues.
  • Gain additional experience and skills relevant to the profession and/or the service, as agreed with the responsible professional and team manager.
  • If required, provide advice, consultation, and training to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings.
