Job responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced Consultant Neuropsychologist to join our expanding therapy service at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre; a modern, independent hospital offering inpatient Level 1 intensive brain injury rehabilitation services with 29 NHS England funded beds for the South West of England. Additionally, we provide slower-stream rehabilitation (Level 2) for up to 23 patients. Both services are managed in collaboration with North Bristol NHS Trust.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within an established team of professionals, including Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and a Consultant in Neuropsychiatry, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses, and Rehabilitation Technicians, all dedicated to providing high-quality care to patients with traumatic and acquired brain injuries.

The successful candidate will provide a neuropsychological service at a high level of clinical expertise, supporting and advising colleagues on all issues of clinical practice, and providing expert professional guidance to Neuropsychologists, Clinical psychologists, and other clinicians within the unit. Alongside this you will provide clinical leadership, management, and direction for inpatient neurorehabilitation within the Psychology team. This will include offering expert clinical supervision for psychology and non-psychology staff on matters relating to neuropsychology, and to provide QICN-accredited supervision for candidates undertaking this qualification.

Our standard working hours for this role are 22.5 per week, with days and times to be agreed. What you'll be doing:

Provide a high level of expertise in specialist neuropsychological assessment of adults with acquired brain injury

Maintain a caseload of highly complex patient cases who have suffered an acquired/traumatic brain injury

Formulate and implement plans for brain injury rehabilitation or management of service user’s brain injury problems based on a multi-factorial neuropsychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice, taking the lead in very complex cases

Undertake and provide supervision on a range of neuropsychological therapeutic interventions

Undertake professional line management of the psychology staff within Frenchay BIRU

Train and supervise clinical psychologists working at Frenchay BIRU who are pursuing the qualification for Practitioner Full Membership of the QICN

Develop audit and clinical research within the psychology service and where appropriate work collaboratively with other MDT disciplines

Function as a member of the Frenchay BIRU Senior Management Team and represent the Psychology service at all senior staff meetings

Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights
