Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Medical Director & Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicineto join the team at Hunters Moor Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in Birmingham.This role is part time - three days a week with a salary of £160k pro rata. Hunters Moor accommodates up to 42patients requiring neurorehabilitation which may include complex physical rehabilitation needs. Individuals are usually admitted directly from an acute hospital setting or Level 1 rehab setting once they are medically stable. At Hunters Moor, they are able to continue the rehabilitation they were unable to complete whilst in hospital. Through our person-centred and evidence-based approach to rehabilitation, we aim to maximise independence and recovery whilst equipping people with the skills to return home or to a supported environment. Individuals and their family work with the MDT (multi-disciplinary team) to set goals around their physical progress, functional abilities, future independence, leisure and work activities and communication.

Job responsibilities

We’re committed to raising standards and improving outcomes for our patients and have put in place a range of measures to establish a robust and integrated Quality & Governance strategy.

Patients benefit from access to our on-site doctor and neuro-specialist team consisting of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Technicians, specialist Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants.

Conditions we support, but are not limited to:

  • Spinal injury
  • Stroke
  • Progressive Neurological conditions
  • Prolonged disorders of consciousness
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Functional neurological diseases
  • Neurological conditions requiring tracheostomy management

 

The service is committed to the delivery of high-quality care and there are opportunities for involvement in clinical research. We use advanced digital technology software ‘RehaCom’ to aid our residents rehabilitation journeys.

What you'll be doing:

Clinical

 

  • Leading the multidisciplinary team that undertakes assessments for admissions to the service within our partner acute hospitals
  • Provide input for Spasticity and Bowel / Bladder Management.
  • Leading the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of our patients, including weekly ward round review
  • Attend family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required
  • Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines
  • Provide supervision to their allocated junior doctor
  • Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with NHSE and participation in the Pan-London Specialist Rehabilitation Collaborative

 

Management 

  • Attendance, and contribution to, the Neuro clinical governance meeting.
  • Participate in service development, through research, innovation and local audit.
  • Continue strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly our partners in the NHS
  • Supervision and support of the site based junior doctor.
  • Engagement in National Networks
  • Ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisal (and adhering to the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice”
