Due to the current post-holder relocating abroad, Active Care Group are seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist / Neuropsychiatrist to the role of Medical Director for Blackheath Brain Injury Unit.

Main duties of the job

The Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre has two dedicated units: the Thames Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (21 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 1C neuro-behavioural unit for patients with complex cognitive and/or behavioural rehabilitation needs; the Heathside Neuro-disability Unit (18 beds), is an NHSE-funded Level 2A unit for patients requiring complex physical neuro-rehabilitation.
Level 1 Regional Specialist Rehabilitation
This regionally renowned service is for people with complex cognitive and /or behavioural problems following a brain injury or as a result of a neurological condition. They have complex nursing and therapy needs requiring input from a highly specialist Inter-Disciplinary Team, and treatment facilities unlikely to be available locally.
Patients are usually in the very early stages of recovery from their brain injury and are usually admitted from an acute hospital once they are medically stable.
Level 2 Specialist Rehabilitation
This service is suitable for people who require specialist inpatient rehabilitation and have ongoing physical therapy needs.

Clinical
- Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines
- Leading the multidisciplinary team that undertakes assessments for admissions to the service within our partner acute hospitals
- Provide input for Spasticity and Bowel / Bladder Management.
- Leading the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of our patients, including weekly ward round review
- Provide supervision to their allocated junior doctor
- Attend family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required
- Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with NHSE and participation in the Pan-London Specialist Rehabilitation Collaborative
Management
- Attendance, and contribution to, the Neuro clinical governance meeting.
- Participate in service development, through research, innovation and local audit.
- Continue strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly our partners in the NHS
- Supervision and support of the site based junior doctor.
- Engagement in National Networks
- Ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisal (and adhering to the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice”
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
- MRCPsych (Required)
- General Adult CCT (Required)
- Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approved (Required)
