We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Psychiatrist or existing Medical Director to provide visible, value driven clinical leadership at Baldock Manor Hospital. As a Consultant Psychiatrist and Responsible Clinician, you will lead the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality patient care, while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
You will play a central role in shaping clinical strategy, strengthening governance frameworks, and ensuring full compliance with CQC standards and the Mental Health Act. Working closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Services Manager, and wider Senior Management Team, you will influence decision making at both hospital and organisational level.
In this highly influential role, you will take responsibility for driving service development, innovation, and the long-term sustainability of the hospital. You will also build strong and effective relationships across the organisation, including with the Nouvita Board, contributing to the continued growth and success of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will lead and support multidisciplinary teams, drive quality and patient safety initiatives, and oversee the development and performance of the medical workforce. You will also contribute to service development, innovation, and the long-term sustainability of the hospital, while building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for a senior clinician on the GMC Specialist Register in Psychiatry, with Approved Clinician status and significant leadership experience in inpatient settings. You will bring a passion for person-centred care, the ability to inspire and influence others, and a strong commitment to clinical excellence. - Represent the organisation at local, regional, and national levels, building strong relationships with commissioners, regulators, and partner agencies.
- Maintain effective liaison with GPs, community mental health teams, and other stakeholders to support integrated care pathways.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, person-centred care for individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Lead the recruitment, appointment, and retention of medical staff, including Consultants, Specialty Doctors, and SHOs.
- Ensure appropriate medical staffing and consultant cover across the hospital, including participation in the on-call rota.

- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) with evidence of ongoing CPD and revalidation
- Experience
- Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist within inpatient services
- Demonstrable experience of clinical leadership and senior-level decision-making
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement
- Experience of working within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act framework
