We are looking for a Head of Insight to lead the Insight team, part of the UKHSA Science Groups Behavioural Science and Insights Unit (BSIU). The BSIU is at the forefront of understanding public and professional attitudes and behaviours and their impact on health. The remit covers both the general public and stakeholders (e.g., local authorities, voluntary and community groups, high risk settings such as prisons). The evidence generated is used to inform strategic decision and policy making, service design and operational improvements. UKHSA has grown out of lessons from the pandemic and exists to ensure that major health crises, both foreseen and unexpected, are avoided or managed effectively. Our work has huge variety and scope to make a real difference to the lives of millions of people. This role is an opportunity for the postholder to play an important part in this.

Main duties of the job

The Insight team helps to bring the voice of the public and stakeholders to life in compelling ways using market research, internal data, feedback from customer and user-facing people throughout the value chain, market reports, third parties and other sources as appropriate. Leadership of this sits with the Head of Insight. The role will make a material difference to the success of the whole organisation. The environment is demanding, ever changing and challenging, and the role will suit a self-motivated, mentally organised but also intellectually creative and persuasive person who can spot opportunities and take responsibility for achieving them.

Turning round work quickly and effectively is an essential and the post-holder must also be a strategic thinker, effective leader, opinion former and persuader, able to motivate their team and operate impressively with the most senior people in the organisation and beyond. It will require someone with extensive breadth and depth of experience, and who is comfortable owning opportunities and driving business change based on evidence and insight, rather than just reporting results. We are open to people from both the private sector and the civil service.

About us

We pride ourselves as being an employer of choice, where Everyone Matters promoting equality of opportunity to actively encourage applications from everyone, including groups currently underrepresented in our workforce.

UKHSA ethos is to be an inclusive organisation for all our staff and stakeholders. To create, nurture and sustain an inclusive culture, where differences drive innovative solutions to meet the needs of our workforce and wider communities. We do this through celebrating and protecting differences by removing barriers and promoting equity and equality of opportunity for all.
