Job summary

The Countermeasures Development, Evaluation, and Preparedness Division (CDEP), Diagnostics and Pathogen Characterisation Division (DPC) and the High Containment and Biological Services Divisions (HCBS) are based within the Specialised Microbiology and Laboratories of the Public Health Microbiology Directorate and provide the laboratory-based capability at UKHSA Porton Down.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a dedicated research project under supervision, over the course of their 12 month placement in the department. They are also expected to contribute to the delivery of other projects within their team and service delivery. The post holder will be an undergraduate student in the field of biological sciences, from a UK university.

Job responsibilities

To undertake a research project and series of tasks that are related to delivery of that project under full supervision.

  1. To perform any other duties required by the Line manager commensurate with grade.
  2. To ensure their work is undertaken in accordance with applicable UKHSA Safety and Quality systems.
  3. To achieve and maintain own and teams health and safety competence.
  4. To fulfil the requirements of UKHSA Values and the Civil Service Code.
  5. To comply with all UKHSA policies and procedures.
