Job responsibilities

The post holder is also expected to;

1. Participate in organisational and professional appraisal and revalidation as appropriate.2. Pursue a programme of Continuing Professional Development, including mandatory training, in accordance with the requirements of a recognised Professional body e.g. Faculty of Public Health, Royal College of Pathologists.3. On the occasions when a medical qualification and GMC specialist registration are required, medically qualified members may be asked to undertake specific duties such as in the development of Patient Group Direction or Medical Officer functions in the Regulations of the Public Health Act. Such occasions may be based on legislative or organisational requirements.4. Where appropriate, contribute to and support the development of individuals and the team through appraisal, personal development planning, coaching and mentoring.

Stage 2 - Interview

You will be invited to an in person interview; remote attendance may be permitted in exceptional circumstances.

Knowledge, experience, skills & abilities will be tested at interview .

A 5 minute presentation will be required, the subject will be provided prior to interview. Slides can be used.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to their years of seniority or if from a background other than medicine to NHS Agenda for Change Band 8d.

Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).

If included in the GMC Specialist Register/ in a specialty other than public health medicine, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice.

Public Health Specialty Registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC.

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

The role is based at Colindale, London NW9 5EQ.

As this role is based at one of our scientific locations, you will be required to have a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You shouldnormally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. In exceptional circumstances UK residency less than the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice.

Qualifications

Essential

• GMC full and specialist register with a license to practice (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
• UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists or be eligible within 6 months.
• If included in the GMC Specialist Register in a specialty other than public health medicine, infectious diseases medicine or medical microbiology, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine, infectious diseases medicine or medical microbiology practice
• If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Knowledge and experience

Essential

• Minimum 6 months training in health protection
• Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements in accordance with the requirements of the Faculty of Public Health/Royal College of Pathologists
• Experience of communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings including out of hours on call
• Postgraduate experience in infectious diseases epidemiology
• Personal expertise in dealing with complex clinical queries on vaccine
• Experience in the public health management of cases or incidents of vaccine preventable diseases
• Research experience including protocol development
• Understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation

Desirable

• Minimum 12 months training in health protection, with at least 3 months at national and/or regional level
• Evidence of successful proposals to obtain research funding
