Job summary
UKHSA has established the Centre for Climate and Health Security (the 'CCHS') to provide scientific advice and support to local, national and international partners to ensure that the impacts of climate change on public health are considered and embedded in system design. Possessing multi-disciplinary teams, scientific infrastructure, and a broad network of partners, UKHSA will speak with an authoritative voice that will aid the design of local, national and international policies, as well as the organisations responsible for delivering them.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Entomology & Zoonoses Ecology (MEZE) group assess, prepare, and respond to current and emerging vector-borne disease threats in the UK.
The team:
- provide entomological expertise on vector issues through research and surveillance activities, primarily on ticks and mosquitoes
- work internationally on vectors and vector-borne diseases to deliver European funded projects and to support the development and delivery of surveillance systems in the UK Overseas Territories
Research and surveillance activities are translated into expert advice for UKHSA, the Department of Health and related sister agencies and departments, contributing to policy, contingency planning, and public health preparedness on vector-borne diseases.
The post holder will work to actively support and contribute to the delivery of a wide range of projects through literature reviews, ecological field/laboratory-based research and surveillance activities and contribution to peer-reviewed publications, as required by UKHSA and externally funded projects. The main duties of the job holder are related to vector surveillance and research activities in the UK. The post involves data collection, analysis and interpretation, the writing of scientific reports and publications.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to produce scientific reports and presentations.
- Ability to work as part of a team, and independently, to deliver shared goals.
- Use organisational, time management and prioritisation skills to deliver agreed project goals/milestones within agreed timescales.
