Job Title: Equipment Manager

Location: UKHSA Porton Down, Salisbury

Reporting To: Equipment Support Manager

The Equipment Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management and control of all equipment within UKHSA, excluding IT-related items. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from overseeing laboratory and process equipment acquisition to maintaining equipment throughout its entire lifecycle.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to Engineering Policy and Compliance.
  • Uphold UKHSA's engineering policies and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Technical Coordination and Support:
    • Collaborate with technical and administrative teams.
    • Manage installation, repair, and preventative maintenance activities.
    • Facilitate equipment upgrades as needed.
  • Strategic Decision-Making:
    • Provide valuable input to strategic decisions related to engineering equipment.
    • Align equipment functions with broader UKHSA projects and developments.
  • Policy Implementation and Maintenance:
    • Oversee the development and implementation of equipment-related policies and procedures.
    • Ensure alignment with UKHSA policies.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Analyse current equipment performance levels.
    • Strategically enhance existing equipment through extensive repairs and upgrades.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Equipment procurement experience
  • Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Job responsibilities

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities, and duties:

  • To exchange specialist information with suppliers to assure equipment is fit for purpose, provides best value and is available to meet business needs
  • To manage the process of securing approvals for the expenditure, liaise with procurement to ensure orders are placed in a timely manner and monitor manufacture and delivery time periods with which to keep CEPRs Users advised of order progress
  • To liaise with Site Engineering to ensure services, environment and delivery needs are provided in a manner that will enable the equipment to operate in accordance with the installation needs and UKHSA engineering processes
  • To evaluate quotations and produce an auditable schedule in evidence of adherence to UKHSAs Standing Financial Instructions
  • To liaise with the administrative function within the department for the placement of orders through the procurement system and the manage the process through authorisation, receipt, acceptance, and delivery to final location
