The Media Services department produces various types of Microbiological growth media in plates and bottles for testing laboratories. These include the national Food, Water and Environmental laboratories in Colindale, York and Porton.

The department also handles the safe disposal of all contaminated waste from Category 2 and 3 on the two main scientific campus sites. They collect the waste from designated areas in the building, transport it to the central autoclave suite in Media Services, and destroy it by heat. They then sort out the material for re-use or off-site disposal. They also sterilise glass and other re-cyclable material and offer a central autoclave sterilisation service from the media production area.

Working Pattern - Part Time, On Site, 25 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities section:

Business support is required to ensure the Media Production and Glass Preparation areas of Media Services Colindale function smoothly by ensuring the quality, customer and financial information is uploaded to the appropriate systems used to provide governance.

  • Finance data entry using SAGE
  • Email checking and query logging in Q-Pulse
  • Q-Pulse administration back up (document control)
  • Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data clearing and analysis
  • Annual Management Review minute taking
  • MaPS order processing and receipting
  • Updating Media Services Microsoft SharePoint site
  • Keep the Media Microsoft OneDrive tidy
  • Assist with audit write up
  • Assist with product packing and delivery activities
  • Nonproduction stock take and record keeping
  • Stock updates of incoming goods
  • General administrative support (ie keeping the mandatory training file up to date with dates provided by Supervisors, same with quarterly reviews)
  • Gathering information for recruitment
