Job responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Area Manager providing a high quality of customer service and support that will ensure that all colleagues are able to access ICT services as required, using properly configured and reliable devices.
- Ensuring that all colleagues receive a consistent level of support, working within agreed service levels as necessary, which minimizes the time for identifying and fixing problems.
- Configuring and commissioning PC hardware and software as required, ensuring that all software is properly licensed. Supporting PC network hardware and software components as required, to maximize the availability to users.
- Providing some administration and technical support for servers, having oversight of local backup procedures.
- Adhering to the Joiners/Movers/Leavers processes to ensure the right people have access to the right systems.
- Ensuring that all ICT equipment is managed according to the asset management processes and working with the equipment supply team to streamline and improve these processes.
- Working with a geographically dispersed team to ensure cover for absent colleagues and colleagues in other geographical areas.
- As required, participate in a rota with other engineers for out-of-hours emergency support provision.
- Leading a small team of engineers, being responsible for their personal development and wellbeing in the workplace.
- Deputising for the Area Manger where required.

Essential Criteria:
- Substantive experience in a technical support role, supporting PC hardware and software and PC networks
- Experience of hardware configuration and LAN connectivity
- Experience/knowledge of PC and LAN hardware devices
- Experience/knowledge Networking protocols, particularly TCP/IP
- Experience/knowledge of Ethernet
- Experience/knowledge Microsoft operating systems and network software
- Experience/knowledge Microsoft application software
- Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of IT systems
- Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences
- Evidence of excellent customer service skills and a commitment to improving services and performance for end users.
- Skills for communication on complex matters and difficult situations, requiring persuasion and influence
- Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining personal networks
- Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend and appropriate course of action to address the issues
- Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
- Ability to engender trust and confidence and demonstrate integrity in the provision of advice and support
- Intermediate keyboard skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload without supervision working to tight and often changing timescales
Desirable Criteria:
- Formal technical qualification, eg MCSE or equivalent
- Knowledge of project management
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project ECDL
- Previous experience in similar role in public sector
- A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it
Selection Process
Stage 1: Application & SiftThis vacancy is using Success Profiles and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.
As part of the application process you will be asked to provide a Personal Statement / Statement of Suitability in no more than 1250 words.
This should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with particular reference to the Experience criteria or the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section).
You will also be asked to provide information within the Employer/ Activity history section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history. This will be used in the sifting process and will be scored.
Feedback will not be provided at this stage.
If you are successful at this stage, you will progress to interview
Stage 2: Panel Interview
This vacancy is using Success Profiles. During the interview we will assess your Behaviours/ Experience/Technical skills.
You will be asked to prepare and present a 5-10 minute presentation. The subject of this will be sent to you prior to interview.

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.
If you are interviewed for the post and do not meet the required threshold for the specified grade, your application may be assessed against a similar, lower grade role and you may be offered the post should one be available.
DBS - People working with government systems must complete Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks which includes a disclosure and barring security check. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed for this role is BPSS however there may be a requirement for this role to be SC cleared and you should familiarise yourself with the criteria of security clearance.
