The RVU is a leading reference laboratory for respiratory virus pathogens, including influenza, RSV, and MERS CoV. The RVU works closely with WHO and other national and international partners to provide technical support, advice, and confirmatory testing for respiratory viruses.

Main duties of the job
As a Data Analyst, you will manage and develop enhanced surveillance systems for respiratory viruses. You will analyse and interpret data and produce reports and publications, as well as participate in research activities within the department. This role also involves you liaising with clinical microbiologists, physicians and other health care professionals.

Job responsibilities
Responsibilities section:
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
- Data Analytics
- In conjunction with others develop and maintain respiratory viruses-specific data bases e.g. related to hospital and laboratory surveillance
- Analyse and interpret complex scientific data, particularly in relation to hospital surveillance project to produce:
- regular scientific reports,
- publications in peer reviewed journals
- other ad-hoc analyses
- Database Development
- Develop and maintain respiratory viruses-specific databases e.g. related to hospital and laboratory surveillance
- In conjunction with others responsible for managing respiratory viruses databases for England and Wales, oversee the redevelopment of these databases. This will involve working with software experts in the planning and transfer of the database into a new system.
- Liaise with Medical and Scientific staff in the UKHSA, NHS and other bodies to provide information necessary for respiratory viruses.
- Be aware of, and put into practice, relevant policies, and procedures to maintain confidentiality of patient information. To maintain data confidentiality and security in compliance with UKHSA policies, the Data Protection Act, and other statutory requirements
- Provide support for other surveillance activities as required within the Department.

- Ensure all VRD information systems adhere to UKHSA Security of Information policy and all Caldicott regulations.
- You should pursue a programme of continuous professional development in accordance with any relevant professional registration or statutory requirements, while maintaining appropriate awareness of service provider requirements.
- Quality in collaboration with the NIS Laboratories Quality Team
- To help to maintain laboratory accreditation (e.g., ISO 15189, via UKAS or its successors) and other agreed national and international standards.
- Maintain a high standard of work and appraise and contribute to developing services so that they are safe, effective, and economical and follows best practice.
- Interpret, design, develop, establish, and disseminate standards and policies in information/data management to international regulatory standards.
