This role comes with a Market Pay Supplement of up to £5,000
The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.
Main duties of the job
This is a hands-on testing role in which you will work with developers to test and deploy new products as well as developing and enhancing UKHSA's existing products and apps. As Senior Test Engineer you will be a member of a team responsible for delivery of the functional aspects of E2E Integration and Acceptance level testing activities within the UKHSA.
You will use the Scrum agile delivery methodology and deliver software in short iterations with frequent releases without compromising code quality, liaising with key internal and external stakeholders and providing technical direction on full-stack software development best practices.
As a Senior Test Engineer you will have:
- Comprehensive understanding of modern testing techniques and how these should be applied.
- A comprehensive understanding of test automation, functional testing, non-functional testing and technical breadth.
- Broad range of experience in creation of automated tests across a variety of languages and stacks.
- Ability to communicate with colleagues with varying levels of technical knowledge.

Developers and Software Test Engineers at UKHSA work collaboratively with stakeholders such as Data Scientists and Public Health officials to deliver software which helps to drive forward the mission of the agency. - Take a business and operational view when analysing the system or data product under test, in so doing identifying gaps in software, data, and processes too.
- Be responsible for evaluating business artefacts, developing necessary test data, and supporting system integration testing.
- Play a supporting role in the acceptance activity within a development phase and defining business rules to measure quality assurance.
- Identify and raise defects or data quality issues with the team, as part of product responsibilities.
- Support product managers and software developers to identify test scenarios and data quality checks that ensure appropriate test coverage.
- Support the rest of the delivery teams with testing and data quality, educate stakeholders and work with delivery teams to define quality.
The post holder will develop working relationships and communicate regularly with a wide range of individuals, clinical and non-clinical, internal and external to UKHSA. This will include:

- Digital team
- ICT department
- Product owners across UKHSA
- Users within UKHSA including key business sponsors
External
- Software suppliers and design agency representatives
- Representatives of other bodies with NHS and Department of Health
