Job summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role providing public health and epidemiological leadership for the Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance Division (HCAI & AMR) that sits within the Clinical and Emerging Infections Directorate. The role will involve leading and managing teams and projects within the HCAI & AMR Division, contributing to UKHSA actions on HCAI's and Antimicrobial Resistant Infection (AMRI's) in the population of England.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and management to the HCAI & AMR Division (1 PA);
  • The surveillance, policy evaluation and prevention monitoring of HCAI's & AMRI's (focusing on Gram-negative and Gram- positive bacteria and related infections, incidents and outbreaks) (4PAs);
  • The development and application of prevention policies for HCAI & AMRI's (2PAs) including, particularly, but not exclusively in relation to bacterial infections, including carbapenem resistant Gram-negative bacteria, urinary tract infections and hospital acquired pneumonia
  • Providing expert advice on HCAI & AMRI related incidents and outbreaks, including developing incident director skills and leadership
  • The co-ordination of national expert assessment of HCAI & AMRI risk following infection control breakdowns (1PA).
  • Professional development, training, administration and research (2 PAs).

Essential

  • Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
  • Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers [see shortlisting notes below for additional guidance]
  • If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
