The department embraces all aspects of a modern clinical bacteriology service combining traditional methodologies with laboratory automation. The department is a designated IBMS training laboratory, has an extensive quality system in operation and is fully accredited by UKAS. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC registered BMS with post-registration experience and understanding in clinical Microbiology. We are seeking an EO grade Biomedical Scientist/HEO grade Specialist Biomedical Scientist. The microbiology partnership provides comprehensive routine services and specialist services to a wide range of hospitals across the North West and beyond and also assists in any UKHSA co-ordinated responses or activity of a national/international nature, e.g. Bioterrorism incident or major disease e.g enteric outbreaks, COVID19, SARS. The department requires staff to support the department in delivering a comprehensive Microbiology service over 7 days. To achieve this it is possible that you will be required to work within a rotational shift pattern which will include shifts throughout the department's 24 hours a day 7 days per week out of hours service.Main duties of the job
Your main duties will include: o Assessing the suitability and appropriateness of samples received and liaises with senior technical staff for action or advice following departmental sample acceptance policy. o Ensuring data integrity when entering demographics and results into the laboratory information system. o Performing sample preparation, processing bodily fluids and materials, including high.o Analysis of biological samples including more complex/ specialist investigations requiring a high level of skill risk specimens and reagent preparation following protocols.o Preparation and interpretation of identification tests and antimicrobial susceptibility tests.o Use and maintenance of manual and sophisticated automated equipmento Assist with the development of new methods and implementation of new technology.o Ensuring that personal work activity is managed to make effective use of time and maintain an adequate supply of laboratory consumables.o Attending regular departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication with the department.o Analysis of biological samples including more complex/ specialist investigations requiring a high level of skill risk specimens and reagent preparation following protocols.o Participate in audit processes, drug trials, research projects, as required.
oParticipating in and monitoring Quality Assurance and Quality Control, activities and assist the department in maintaining UKAS ISO15189 accreditation.
