Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Consultant Epidemiologist to join the Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (EIZ) section and lead the national zoonoses activities.
The EIZ section covers a range of activities including horizon scanning and risk assessment of global emerging infectious disease threats; development of specialist resources and expert advice for the public health management of high consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs); coordinating the providing scientific support to the Human Animal Infections Risk Surveillance group (HAIRS); coordinating activities related to non-foodborne zoonoses across UKHSA; undertaking surveillance of zoonoses; and working closely with human, animal and environmental health colleagues on the assessment, management and control of zoonotic infections.
Main duties of the job
This is a specialist Consultant Epidemiologist position in the Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (EIZ) section and will have lead responsibility for specific zoonoses, as well as providing senior level input into a wide range of activities carried out by section relating to emerging infections and zoonoses.

- Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
- Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers
