Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a number of professional Technical Advisors which includes:

  • Nurses, Midwives or Allied Health Professions with expertise in public health including those with a background in midwifery, health visiting, school nursing, community nursing, health protection, health promotion or
  • Nurses/ Allied Health Professionals with an interest and background in public health for example from the learning disabilities or mental health fields of practice.
  • hospital settings with an interest in embedding prevention and public health or who have a specialist public health qualification such as infection prevention and control.
  • Professionals from social care, data or workforce or research backgrounds

These posts will be offered on honorary contract terms and conditions (maximum 1 year period). Applicants will be currently undertaking similar duties and responsibilities in their permanent roles. Prior to attending interview, applicants must ensure agreement with current employer.

Main duties of the job

The main duty of Technical Advisors will contribute to the WHO CC programme of work and terms of reference which include:

  1. To support WHO in strengthening disease prevention, health promotion and build resilience in health care systems, and in generating evidence and frameworks of practice for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.
  2. To support WHO in collating and collecting evidence about the nurses', midwives' and allied health professionals role and impact across the life course.
  3. On request of WHO provide technical assistance and support WHO in informing the development of policy advice, about public health nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals. To note this includes:
  • Case Studies
  • Advisory roles to committees
  • Commenting/revising papers
  • Advisory visits and buddying

About us

The Technical Advisors will work as a network led by Chief Nurse, Maternity and Early Years Directorate, contributing to the design and development of health promotion pathways for nurses, midwifery and Allied Health Professions interventions in collaboration with WHO and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The work will focus on the application of evidence based public health into practice for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions, together with profiling the leadership role of nurses, midwives and AHPs during COVID-19 and the lessons learnt.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • To provide expert advice to PHE NME Directorate and/or to be part of the technical advisor network for WHO CC.
  • To proactively contribute into the design and development of specific health promotion pathways for nursing, midwifery and allied health professional interventions in collaboration with WHO and other organisations.
  • To attend meetings or focus groups or advise on specific technical issues
  • To support the development and strengthening of the evidence base for public health.
  • To identify and disseminate the evidence, translating this into practice to improve health outcomes and support the reduction in health inequalities.
  • To support the identification, review and dissemination of local practice examples and case studies to support evidence into action.
  • To be part of the social movement to measure and increase awareness of prevention and public health in nursing, midwifery and allied health professions and increase capacity for nursing, midwifery and allied health professional leaders.
  • To be an ambassador for All Our Health and Nursing Now.

EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE

We are looking to recruit individuals with skills and expertise in the following areas:

  • Maternity, child and adolescent health and wellbeing
  • Workforce, data analysis, training and development /workforce health and wellbeing
  • Academic and research
  • Learning disabilities or mental health
  • Public health/health protection/health promotion

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The post holders will be supported by NME through a minimum of 2 development days to build on existing knowledge and develop specialist knowledge and skills.

Option 3 External

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife with current NMC registration or AHP with current professional registration (HCPC or GOsC) or recognised Qualification and Registration in social care, data, workforce and research .
  • Health related first degree
  • Master degree (or working towards) in a health/public health related subject or equivalent demonstrable evidence
  • Able to demonstrate a rich portfolio of reflective evidence and adherence to NMC revalidation and/or evidence of Continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Post registration specialist qualification/registration in public health UKPHR/SCPHN or equivalent demonstrable experience in Public health
