Job summary

The post holder will be working with a number of workstreams which require which require public health, epidemiology, surveillance and data analysis experience and skills.

The Test and Trace Operations Cell is a key part of the COVID-19 pandemic response and work collaboratively with other parts of NHS Test and Trace to deliver the scientific, public health and some operational aspects of contact tracing within NHS Test & Trace. The team has a number of workstreams which require public health, epidemiology, surveillance and data analysis experience and skills. These workstreams include the following activities: contact tracing management webtool development and operation, COVID-19 outbreak detection and surveillance, international contact tracing, contact tracing data management, situational awareness and risk assessment, contact tracing training and guidance development and general operational support

Main duties of the job

This challenging post will set the pace for major change and efficiency in the delivery of the PHE Test and Trace Operations Cells response to Covid.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant to lead the team through a period of organisational change while maintaining and enhancing efficiency in the contact tracing of infectious cases of Covid . The Public Health Consultant will be skilled in the application of epidemiological methods to health protection issues, including the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of outbreak investigations and surveillance systems. They will be able to lead investigation and surveillance teams and provide expert advice for the COVID-19 pandemic response. They will work independently and under pressure against short deadlines when required.

The candidates must be included on the UK Public Health Register.

Essential

  • Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice
  • Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers
  • If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
